UNITED CLOSE TO SIGNING VAN DER SAR SUCCESSOR

Lindegaard is close to making his Man United move as Edwin Van Der Sar’s successor, it has been revealed. The 26-year-old Lindegaard was reportedly having a medical with the English powerhouse on Friday and could be the long-term successor to Edwin van der Sar if the Dutch veteran retires as expected at the end of the season.

Lindegaard initially joined Aalesund on loan from Odense last year but signed a permanent contract afterward. He has played four times for Denmark and is the regular backup for long-term No. 1 Thomas Sorensen.

The 193-cm (6-foot-6) Lindegaard told Friday’s edition of the Ekstra Bladet newspaper that any deal with Manchester United won’t be completed until Monday. He will not be able to join the club officially until the transfer window opens on Jan. 1.
