Ajax Amsterdam CEO (Chief Executive Officer) Edwin Van Der Sar has leapt to the defence of Ajax shot stopper Andre Onana after the player was hit with a 12-month ban for taking performance-enhancing drugs. Edwin Van Der Sar defended Andre Onanathrough a statement released by Ajax Amsterdam shortly after the suspension was announced. Edwin Van Der Sar said the club had hoped that Cameroonian international Andre Onana would be given a suspended sentence or a sentence lesser than the 12-month suspension given to him and that it was not his intention to take performance-enhancing drugs.
Ajax General Manager Edwin Van Der Sar has called on Ajax to become more consistent and perform better both on and off the pitch from this season onwards. Manchester United goalkeeping legend Edwin van der Sar has revealed that he almost signed for Liverpool under Gerard Houlier. The Dutchman said he almost moved to Anfield back in 1999. He was on the radar of most top sides following his success at Ajax. He spent nine successful years at the Netherlands top club, winning the UEFA Cup and the Champions League title in 1991 and 1995.
Houlier really wanted Van der Sar at the Merseyside that summer of 1999. The tall and lanky shot stopper was even shown around the club ahead of a likely transfer from the Eredivisie to the Premier League.
