ROBIN ASKED FOR ADVICE

The former goalkeeper of Manchester United, Edwin Van Der Sar, has admitted that his compatriot, Robin Van Persie, had taken his advice before signing for United. Sar said that Persie met him and asked whether it would be a right decision to join United or not. As per Sar, United is, undoubtedly, one of the best clubs in the world. It has got a terrific manager in the form of Sir Alex Ferguson who is one of the greatest managers of all times.

The environment of the United dressing room has always been good over the years. You would have hardly heard about a dispute in the United camp. Sir Alex Ferguson manages everything with great efficiency. It’s a great opportunity for a player if he gets an offer to sign for United. So, he suggested Persie to join United without any doubt.

Sar himself had played for United for 6 years. He had joined the club in June 2005. United was reported to have paid 2 million Pounds to Fulham for buying Sar. Alex Ferguson had rated him very highly and said that he was one of the best goalkeepers who had ever played for the club. Sar’s performance was up to the mark during his 6 years tenure at United and he played a key part in many victories of Sir Alex Ferguson’s team.

In May 2011, Sar announced his retirement from football at the age of 40 years. The final of the Champions League 2011 against Barcelona was the last match of his career. He was given the opportunity to captain United in that match. United was defeated in that match by 3-1 and Sar didn’t manage to leave the football arena on a winning note.

The Dutch veteran said that he played for several clubs during his career, but, he enjoyed the most while playing for United. Playing under the guidance of Alex Ferguson was a privilege and he would cherish those moments throughout his life.
