NEW JOB FOR EDWIN

The former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van Der Sar has become the new marketing director for the Dutch club Ajax where he began his career many years ago. The 42-year-old has been not involved in a lot of things since retiring from professional football in 2011.

In the last few weeks, he has been holding talks with Ajax over the possibility of an unspecified role. It has now been revealed that he will become the marketing director at the club. Ajax have praised the qualities of the former Juventus and Manchester United goalkeeper by saying that his leadership will be of great importance to the team and the club.

Edwin van Der Sar is the veteran of numerous matches of great importance. He has also managed to win two European cups during his stellar career, while also managing to win 130 appearances for the Dutch national team. This is not the first time Ajax have recalled one of their former players to be part of the setup at the club. Edwin van Der Sar last played professional football for Manchester United in the Champions League final against Barcelona back in 2011. The match finished as a 3-1 defeat for the team, as they lost to Barcelona for the second time in the European final.

“Van der Sar had a fantastic career and also has natural leadership and therefore the potential to be our managing director in the future. Kinsbergen will lead the board and organisation in the coming years and also guide Van der Sar in his further development,” said the CEO of the club, Hans Weijers after making the announcement. Ajax have made a poor start to the Eredivisie season. They are currently in the fourth position many points behind the leaders PSV, who have been in stunning form.
