KUZCZAK GUNNING FOR VAN DER SAR

Tomasz Kuszczak says he plans to hold onto the Manchester United No.1 shirt after enduring a long spell in the wilderness at the club. Kuszczak started the season third in the pecking order at Old Trafford, behind veteran Edwin van der Sar and England prospect Ben Foster.

An injury to first-choice van der Sar gave Foster the chance to make the position his own – only for a series of high-profile errors to ensure the 26-year-old made a return to the subs bench. The poor run of form has given Kuszczak a prolonged run in the side having started in United’s last six outings.

He kept a clean sheet in the 3-0 win over Wolves and said he is delighted to have been given a chance by Sir Alex Ferguson to prove his worth. Kuszczak said: “It is great to get a run in the team. Playing for Manchester United is fantastic. Even when I have had the hard times, and I did not play, that was always my ambition.
