EDWIN VAN DER SAR: NEW CONTRACT

Manchester United number one Edwin van der Sar is reportedly ready to sign a 12 month contract extension at Old Trafford. The 39-year-old veteran was widely expected to retire at the end of the season to leave Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak vying for the number one jersey, however the Sun claim the former Holland international feels he can give the Premier League champions yet another year.

Sir Alex Ferguson has always insisted the decision would rest with Van der Sar, while also maintaining the club’s successor would be promoted from within. The former Fulham stopper was voted UEFA’s top keeper in 2009 having gone a world record 1,311 minutes without conceding.
